Overview

Junior Fleet introduces kids to open-water sailing.
Key skills gained here involve navigating stronger winds, tides, channel markings, and other boats.
Once sailors have shown competency in all areas of sailing they will be invited to join the Sailing Team and introduced to racing in Southport Yacht Club's Off The Beach Dinghy races, as well as special sailing events, beach trips, camp trips, and a range of other on water activity.

$415 with Hire Boat (payment plan available)
$235 with Own Boat

Membership

SYC Cadet Membership is required to join Junior Fleet. 
Cadet Membership can be arranged with the Hollywell Sailing Reception on the first day of training.

What to bring:
Sailing Gear Guide

- Hat
- Sunnies
- Gloves
- Water Bottle
- Swimmers/Wetsuit
- Rain Coat/Spray Jacket
- Shoes that can get wet and wont fall off
- Towel
- Change of clothes

 

Please be aware that in some instances our training schedule will need to be adapted to suit varying weather conditions ie. wind and tide.  This may result in some training sessions being theory and/or fitness based.  These sessions also form an important part of your sailing pathway.  The Club coaches will make this decision, prior to the session, based on the safety of the squad members and opportunity for development.

 

All squad members will be asked to abide by a behaviour code.

 

Payment can be made on a term-by-term basis. Payment must be made prior to the term commencing to secure a spot within the Fleet. Sailors are encouraged to attend all training sessions to maximize benefits gained.

Green Fleet is an introduction to coaching and learning to train.

Green Fleet promotes practicing the fundamental skills of sailing, introduces some foundation race skills through training activities in an environment that is enjoyable, without a competition focus.
