Course Overview

Your sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and learn to sail a dinghy on your own.

What is a Sail Dinghy?

A Sail Dinghy is a type of small sail boat used for racing or recreational purposes, usually sailed solo, but depending on the make, can hold up to a crew of 4. Participants will learn on the RS Quest

Who should do this course?

This course is catered for both novice and intermediate sailors. Whether you have no prior experience and wish to enter the world of sailing, or have sailed before but would like to refresh and improve your current skills.

(there is no maximum age, but a base level of mobility is essential. Sailing is an active vehicle sport)

Note: you’ll capsize on the first day (yes, you’ll get wet!), be prepared to get wet every day as you learn the ropes and have fun on water!

Course prerequisites

• Ages 16+
• No prior experience required

Course outcome

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Fundamentals of Sailing
• Sail Dinghy terminology and rigging
• Weather Theory: Wind, Currents, and Tides
• Knot tying: Figure 8, Bowline, Hitches
• Launching and returning to shore
• Capsize Recovery
• Tacking and Gybing

Participants will gain a certificate in Start Sailing 1 & 2 accredited by Australian Sailing!

What to Bring:
- Hat
- Sunglasses (note: risk of falling off or getting wet)
- Gloves *Winter
- Water bottle
- Swimmers or wetsuit
- Raincoat or spray jacket
- Water shoes or crocs (No shoes, NO PLAY) - No Thongs or Slides
- Towel
- Change of clothes

TIMES & COST

$415 for 3 lessons over 3 weeks, 9am-3pm
