Age: the course is designed for adults of any age, however, is open to youth aged 15+.
Outcome: Better Sailing Certificate (Australian Sailing)
Objective:
By the end of this course, sailors will have the confidence to skipper a dinghy with a crew in open water, and compete in club racing anywhere in Australia.
Day 1 (Sunday 4th Jan) - You and 2 other crew will practice sailing the RS Quest in open water to get a feel for the boat in tide, and get those sea legs back.
The instructor will cover rules of the road, including right-of-way, and identifying channel marks, as well as the Race Rules of Sailing.
There is a choice to rig a third sail, the spinnaker, which the instructor will demonstrate how to deploy and utilise.
Day 2 (Sunday 11th Jan) - The morning will start with a revision of the previous week's session, followed by a practical session.
The club has an Off the Beach Dinghy Sprint Race that afternoon, which you will have the opportunity to participate in, guided by the Instructor.
Day 3 (Sunday 18th Jan) - Revision and practice in the morning before the club's signature dinghy race, Cock of the Broadwater, which you will have the opportunity to compete in (don't worry, the instructor will be there to make sure you have the best time!)

What's Next?
On completion, Sailors are encouraged to join a Keelboat Crewing and Helming Course, sailing on the Blazer 23, to gain Inshore Keelboat skills. Mastering the foundational skills—safety, wind and water awareness, sail theory, small boat mechanics and skippering, race strategy and tactics, inshore navigation, and keelboat crewing—builds your competence, confidence, and competitiveness as a crew member aboard Members’ boats in Twilight, Inshore, and Offshore Division racing (start racing today with a Sail Pass).
