This 2-day course introduces sailors - who have prior experience in sailing - to crewing and helming larger yachts. Introducing you to the basics of sailing on a Melges 24 or Blazer 23, including boat handling, safety and sailing theory and developing practical skills to confidently take control on the helm.
Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st May
Cost: $500 (payment plan available)
Time: 9am-3pm
Pre-requisite: Start Sailing 1 & 2 or prior sailing experience
Outcome:
- Australian Sailing Certificate of Competency - Crewing & Helming
- Invited to join the SYC Inshore & Twilight Racing groups

Also, bring a towel, change of clothes, and layers if you are prone to getting cold.
Food:
Once out sailing, it may be impractical to come back in for morning or afternoon tea, so it's best to bring snacks in a small cooler.
We will come in for lunch at the Hollywell Sailing Squadron, the Bar and Bistro will be open from 11:30 each day.

Course Overview
The first step on the Keelboat pathway introduces you to the basics of sailing on a small keelboat, including boat handling, safety and sailing theory. In the combined course, you will also experience and develop the theory and practical skills to confidently take control on the helm.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a keelboat. Learn the basics of crewing and helming, whilst staying relatively dry! All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Crewing and Start Helming completion certificate.
