Program Overview

Tackers Fleet focuses on refining boat-handling skills and introducing racing concepts in a supportive environment.

Sailors will continue to build independence while learning advanced techniques that prepare them for transition to open-water, Junior Fleet and Sailing Team pathways.

Who Is This Program For?

This program is designed for children who have successfully completed Tackers 2 and are looking to progress into more advanced sailing skills.

Program Prerequisites

• Aged 7–12 years
• Water confident
• Completion of Kids Learn to Sail Level 2 (Tackers 2)

By the End of the Course, Sailors Will Be Able To:

• Demonstrate correct roll tacking and gybing techniques
• Understand and perform controlled downwind gybes
• Stop the boat in confined areas
• Sail backwards with control
• Demonstrate sound knowledge of the Five Essentials:
• Centreboard position
• Boat trim
• Boat balance
• Sail trim
• Start and finish races on triangle and trapezoid courses
• Use tactical mark roundings during races

Once participants showcase that they can handle the boat in varying conditions, unsupported, they will be invited to join the Junior Fleet at Hollywell Sailing Squadron, where they will sail in a larger fleet, in stronger winds and tide, and practice the rules-of-the-road.
