Out There Fleet – Term 3
Teens Open Water, Racing & Adventure Sailing
Ages 12–17
Out There Fleet is designed for confident young sailors ready to take the next step into open-water sailing, racing and adventure-based experiences at Hollywell Sailing Squadron.
This program builds on skills developed through Out There Sailing (Oxenford) and intermediate sailing pathways, introducing sailors to higher-performance boats, stronger conditions and real club sailing environments.
Program Overview
Out There Fleet sailors train in open-water conditions and learn to sail a variety of performance boats including Hobie Wave Catamarans
Throughout Term 3, sailors will develop:
• Confidence sailing in stronger winds
• Understanding of tides and tidal flow
• Navigation using channel markers
• Awareness and decision-making around other vessels
• Advanced boat handling and seamanship
• Independence as a small-boat skipper
Once competency is demonstrated, sailors may be invited to participate in Southport Yacht Club Off The Beach Catamaran and Dinghy Racing.
In addition to training, sailors will have opportunities to take part in:
• Racing events
• Social sailing sessions
• Beach trips and adventure sails
Term 3 Schedule
Saturdays and Sundays | 2.5-hour sessions
July 18th - August 30th
Session Options:
Saturday's:
• Social Sailing: 8:30am – 11:00am
• Racing Training: 11:15am – 1:45pm
• Adventure Sailing (Ages 14+): 2:30pm – 5pm
Sunday's
• Social/Race Sailing Session: 9am-11:30am
Please Note only 9 spots per session
Investment: $440
Membership Requirement
SYC Cadet Membership is required to participate in Out There Fleet.
Membership Fees are $105 per Annum . Pro rata April 31st. Register Here: Application Form
Cadet Membership can be arranged through Hollywell Sailing Reception on the first day of training.

Prerequisites
• Aged 12–17
• Completion of Out There Sailing (Oxenford)or Intermediate Level Sailing Experience
• Coach assessment and invitation
• Confident, proficient small-boat skipper
Progression & Pathways
To continue progressing within Out There Fleet and racing pathways, sailors are encouraged to begin looking at purchasing their own sailboat.
For first-time buyers, the following classes are strongly recommended:
• Laser 4.7 Dinghy
• Nacra 350 Catamaran

Program Focus:
Green Fleet is an introduction to coaching and learning to train.
Green Fleet promotes practicing the fundamental skills of sailing, introduces some foundation race skills through training activities in an environment that is enjoyable, without a competition focus.
