New to Racing? Find it daunting and difficult? We'll teach you everything you need to know.
Go Racing! is a series of informal sail racing open to new and seasoned sailors looking to improve their race knowledge and skills, or just have fun on the water, with plenty of prizes to be won! Sailors will be guided on-water through the rules and race format, allowing them to learn and practice without the stress of entering formal club racing. The series will take place over 5 days, with 3-5 races per day. At the end of each race, participants will have the opportunity to discuss mistakes made or rules broken with the Race Officer. The program follows the same racing rules and format common to all clubs, so the lessons learnt can be taken to any club in the world.
By the end of the series, sailors will have gained:
comprehensive knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing and Club Racing
skills in race strategy and tactics
confidence to compete in club racing anywhere in the world!
Race Calendar Saturdays 12pm-3pm 17th, 24th, 31st October 7th and 14th November Schedule 12:00pm - Sign In and Boat Rigging (sailors are welcome to practice until race start) 12:30pm - Race Brief: Covering Race Course, Rules and Format. This is your chance to ask questions. 12:57pm - Warning Signal (this is the countdown to race start) 1:00pm - Start of the First Race 2:30pm - De-rig and Debrief
Boats Used RS Quest Dinghy - the skipper must have completed the Adult Learn to Sail course or equivalent courses (Start Sailing 1 & 2) or have ample experience (inexperienced sailors are welcome to crew). Hobie Wave Catamarans - open to all (sailing experience is recommended, as there will be no Learn to Sail lessons on the day)
